Merriam-Webster lists four definitions for the word "engineer", with the most common connotation of the word referring to someone who has studied and works in a field of engineering. When I define myself as an engineer, I refer to another subdefinition of the word: " a person who carries through an enterprise by skillful or artful contrivance". Whether a project is a mechanical design, a piece of software to output a binary value, or a mobile robot system, the engineer has the ability to artfully prototype and design a complete product.
This definition of engineering is one that I believe encapsulates my personality and description. I'm an engineer who takes pride in my passion for designing robotic and embedded systems, from the mechanical design down to the software to integrate the sensors. I take pride in not being defined by a specific field of engineering, but instead pursue knowledge in all aspects of designing or improving systems.
